Rocket Age headed by Ken Spencer

We get some news about Cubicle 7's upcoming pulp sci-fi RPG. Last we heard it was going to use the same system as the Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space RPG and Primeval RPG. That system has been known as George or more recently The Saturday Afternoon Tea Time Adventure System.

Here's Cubicle 7's article
Cubicle 7 has announced that Ken Spencer has been appointed Line Developer and Lead Writer for Rocket Age, the new game line of golden-age interplanetary science fiction.
Dominic McDowall, Cubicle 7 CEO said, “Ken is a terrific addition to the C7 team. You’re going to love what he’s doing with Rocket Age – every page is packed with great ideas, it’s hugely inspiring.”
"I am very excited to be working with the fine folks at Cubicle 7, a company whose products I have long enjoyed," said Ken. "Rocket Age has gone from an idea, to a dream, and is now a reality. To share this alternate history retro sci-fi vision with my fellow gamers is a wondrous experience."
Ken Spencer is the line developer and lead writer for Rocket Age. A former archeologist and educator, he now splits his time between writing and being a stay at home dad. As a freelance writer he has worked for Alephtar Games, Chaosium, Steve Jackson Games, and Frog God Games. Ken lives in Indiana with his wife, son, two cats, a dog, and several fish.

STAR WARS REBELS

STAR WARS REBELS announced. Here's the press release...

Production has begun on Star Wars Rebels, an exciting, all-new animated television series based on one of the greatest entertainment franchises of all time.  Scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, it will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Leading the development of the series is a creative team of exceptional talent. Screenwriter/producer Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Sherlock Holmes, Mr. & Mrs. Smith) is an executive producer on Star Wars Rebels and will write the premiere episode. He is joined by Dave Filoni as executive producer, who served as supervising director of the ®Emmy nominated Star Wars: The Clone Wars since 2008. Executive producer Greg Weisman brings with him a wealth of animation experience with credits such as Young Justice, The Spectacular Spider-Man and Gargoyles.

Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, "The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation for over three decades, and we're thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of Star Wars to Disney XD's viewers."

"I couldn't be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president, Lucasfilm. “I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars."

The action-filled series is set between the events of Episode III and IV – an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape. Details about the show are a closely guarded secret at this point.

Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fans attending Star Wars Celebration Europe will be the first to get an exclusive look at the new series. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Space Squirlins! is a 27 page free PDF available on the Chaosium Inc. website. The premise for the game is a cartoonish space opera featuring anthropomorphic characters. Mainly squirrels vs cats.

The game includes the deckplans for three space ships- The Acorn, The Pistachio, and their nemesis' ship, The Meowinator. It also has six pre-generated squirrel characters.

This is a free PDF download, though you may have to register and sign in to do so.

Ayreon - The Final Experiment

THIS IS THE VOICE OF MERLIN. LISTEN WELL,
FOR IT CONCERNS YOU. THIS CHRONICLE COMMENCES IN THE YEAR 2084 A.D.
MANKIND HAS VIRTUALLY DESTROYED ITSELF.
IT'S SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON 'THE FINAL EXPERIMENT'.
SCIENTISTS FROM THE 21ST CENTURY HAVE DEVELOPED
A NEW COMPUTERPROGRAM CALLED 'TIME TELEPATHY'.
BY USING THIS TECHNIQUE THEY HAVE SENT VISIONS OF HUMANITIES'
DECLINE BACK IN TIME. THESE TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY THE MIND
OF A BLIND MINSTREL WHO LIVES IN 6TH CENTURY GREAT BRITAIN. HIS NAME ....
IS 'AYREON'.

The Final Experiment is the first album under Ayreon. Are the subsequent albums more visions the blind minstrel experiences and sings? Perhaps Ayreon overcame Merlin's curse!

The meta-aspect of the album is here we are listening to Ayreon's words. In spite of Merlin's curse, which was to make it so no one ever heard of Ayreon or his words, here is the album. We're hearing Ayreon's words.

Another Dungeons & Dragons Movie

They're making another Dungeons & Dragons movie. This is a reboot. And for once, they're rebooting a franchise that could use it.

EXCLUSIVE: This ought to reverberate through the geek realm. Warner Bros has acquired rights to make a movie based on Dungeons & Dragons, the perennially popular role-playing game fantasy game. The studio is actually quite far along in the development of the project, as it will use a script by Wrath Of The Titans and Red Riding Hood scribe and Frank Darabont protege David Leslie Johnson. That script, Chainmail, was acquired last year as a free-standing project, based on an obscure game that was also hatched by D&D designer Gary Gygax before he and Dave Arneson launched D&D. It is being retro-fitted to fit the much bigger game creation. The film will be produced by The Lego Movie producer Roy Lee and Courtney Solomon. The latter actually directed a 2000 Dungeons & Dragons feature, a film that starred Jeremy Irons and did not do well.

Given the heightened interest in sword, sorcery, chivalry and cool creatures within Warner Bros with the HBO series Game Of Thrones and the ongoing Peter Jackson-directed adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit, it is expected that the studio will expend the necessary resources to create a world around a well-established brand which has generated north of $1 billion in books and merchandise since it was launched in 1974. The studio is going out to filmmakers and I’m told they are treating it as a big priority. Alan Zeman is exec producing. I’ve never played the game, but it is a fantasy universe on the order of The Lord Of The Rings, which was most popular back when players had to use their collective imaginations — before video games became so visually sophisticated that it eliminated the need to do much more than sit back and blast away. The studio’s intention is to reboot the franchise for a new generation.
