Heavy Gear D6

I was searching for OpenD6 resources for creating a ROBOTECH or a Gundam type campaign setting for the kiddos, when I stumbled upon this.

Heavy Gear is a mecha setting franchise that started as a roleplaying game and expanded into other media such as: a tactical miniature game, a card game, a video game, and computer animated television series.

The video game came about due to Activision losing it's license for Battletech/MechWarrior, developing Heavy Gear as an alternative.

Each edition of the original RPG was powered by publisher Dream Pod 9's rule system in their various versions called Silhouette system.

This post focuses on a fan adaption of this setting to the open D6 System.

Evan Anhorn is the author of the conversion. Jason "Banzaidyne III" English is to credit for the work on the supplements, here. Here is what is available and what is planned for in the future...

[ spooks ] The Greater Good

So its not over after all! The excellent BBC spy series [spooks] (known as MI-5 on A&E in the US) continues with a film called Spooks: The Greater Good.

"Harry not only survived to the final episode, broadcast in 2011, but he is now reborn, along with the franchise, in a new British movie. The firstSpooks film, The Greater Good, is released next month. Fans of the show will be delighted to learn that it is just like Spooks – a bumper episode, really. The theme music is different but the final scene freezes into an X-ray, just like old times. There is plenty of running down urban alleyways, tense jargon-swapping on the Grid and a threat with a timer on it: in this case, a charismatic, US-educated jihadist called Adam Qasim who escapes from MI5 custody and has a plot to attack London and bring down the British establishment too."

In the height of the d20 era, even Traveller had a d20 version published. From 2002 through 2006 Quiklink Interactive / RPG Realms Publishing held the license to create products that expanded the Traveller franchise in the extremely popular d20 game system.

Usually, when new versions of Traveller are published it seems chic to release it in a previously un-explored part of the vast Traveller universe's history. Traveller20 (or also known as T20) was set about one hundred years before the original classic game was set. In it's own vernacular, at the time of the Solomani Rim War around the year 990. The region explored was the Gateway Domain of the Imperium.

There were a few physical books published- the Core Rules, Gateway to Destiny, and a Narrator's Screen, plus a few equipment books and newsletters. Most of the support material appeared in PDF format, but also multi-system supporting various other versions of Traveller, mainly the original Classic Traveller.

There were plans for a d20 version of another Traveller spin-off, Traveller 2320 (the d20 version of Traveller 2300). A PDF was released at one time, but it seems rather difficult to find that now.

While d20 system definitely had it's day on top, the following resentment for various reasons took it to an all time low, in spite of the continued success of Pathfinder. I feel we're coming out of that anti-d20 era. Through it all, Traveller 20 seemed to have had a rather positive respect in fan's opinions. Some still rave about it saying it was perhaps one of the best d20 publications created.

What I recently discovered was that after Quiklink Interactive / RPG Realms lost the license for Traveller, there was a re-release of the products with the Traveller setting stripped out. Similar to what Mongoose did with Legend and RuneQuest. In this process they also cleaned up the products, fixing errata and clarifying some rules, etc. The following series is a solid generic d20 sci-fi game.

This line was to be short lived. The mind behind Traveller 20 and SciFi20 tragicly passed away and the ambition for this line, with him. Hunter Gordon's memory is held high by many Traveller fans.

The H.I.S.S. tank is almost real now.

TableTop RPG show will be powered by AGE

Wil Wheaton has been talking about doing a spin-off of his very successful TableTop YouTube series that focuses on roleplaying games instead of board games. Recently a lot more about this has been coming out. It now sounds like Wil's show will be like an actual play like many podcasts, but here it will be in front of his studio cameras. He's recently announced the cast and today he announced what the game will be.

The game is going to be his own original campaign setting and powered by the AGE System (adventure game engine), the system is the same system behind the Dragon Age RPG. Green Ronin is soon going to publish this system as sort of a generic RPG system for the fantasy genre. This is going to be the same thing that will be featured in the show.

TableTop did feature the Dragon Age RPG in a couple of their episodes already. It's likely that was what inspired this project. Based on the quality

TableTop host Wil Wheaton announced the title, cast, and premiere date of theTableTop spinoff RPG show: Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana. The game will utilize Green Ronin’s forthcoming Fantasy AGE system in a setting of Wheaton’s own design, and will premiere on Geek & Sundry’s website and YouTube channel on June 2. The RPG spinoff was promised as part of the fundraising campaign for the third series of the show (see “'TableTop' to Launch RPG Show”).
“I needed a system that was going to support the way I play roleplaying games, and that is – telling a story collaboratively with a group of players with me as the GM,” Wheaton said. He named off several major systems that he likes: D&D, Savage Worlds, Fate Core, and Green Ronin’s True20, then added, “I really wanted to use something that was released by an independent publisher. I really wanted to bring something to the forefront of the roleplaying world that not many people are familiar with as I want them to be.”
The game will be played using Fantasy AGE, the latest iteration of the Adventure Game Engine by Green Ronin Publishing, (see “'Dragon Age,' 'A Song of Ice and Fire,' 'Return to Freeport,' More”). Wheaton’s own setting game will be a mash-up of the 1978 Heavy Metal movie and the Thundarr the Barbarian Saturday morning cartoon series called Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana. "We're going to releaseFantasy AGE and Titansgrave concurrently in August," Green Ronin's Chris Pramas told ICv2.
“It was incredibly difficult to cast this show. We needed people who were comfortable improvising, who had experience playing roleplaying games, and who were available when we planned to shoot the show,” Wheaton said. The 10 week campaign will include Yuri Lowenthal (voice actor for several Ben 10 andNaruto series) Laura Bailey (voice actor for Soul Eater and Resident Evil: Degeneration), Alison Haislip (Attack of the Show!) and Hank Green.
